WORKERS VS TRUMP - THE STRUGGLE IS OUR MISSION
In our March Update we laid out the current goals for our work:
The fact is that the attacks on immigrants, the working class, and basic democratic rights are even meaner than many of us expected. And the fightback isn’t yet measuring up to the task. Neither the Democratic Party nor the labor movement is mounting a united response appropriate to the challenge.
We are committed to do our part to weave together a broad, united fightback. We will sustain organizations that we are committed to and also support new projects that are building elements of a united fight.
We’ve reached $1 million in grants awarded! In just the past six months, we have awarded $477,500 in grants, and our 2025 grants may reach $700,000. We’re growing! Our website lists all our grantees
Earlier this year we made our first grant to the Federal Unionists Network (FUN), a cross-union network of militant and progressive federal unionists who are leading the workers’ fight against Trump’s union busting and to save the VA, Social Security, Medicaid, the EPA and our national parks. We will continue to nurture this growing organization, which now has an effective staff.
We continue to fund insurgent and progressive caucuses and movements. Just a week ago we issued a grant to the Caucus of Rank and File Entertainment Workers – IATSE CREW. CREW believes the workers who create the art that enriches our lives deserve job security and a voice in their working conditions.
Although the bulk of our grants go to front-line workers’ movements, we just awarded a $50,000 grant to the Association for Union Democracy (AUD). The goal of this project is to develop a network of attorneys who will provide coordinated legal support to workers’ fightbacks against Trump and corporate greed, as well as defense of union democracy.
We continue to grow our income from wonderful donors. In recent months three new contributors have joined us, and we also received one estate donation. Some of our sustaining contributors have increased their annual support. Bonus good news: the 128 Collective renewed their generous grant, which allows us, with guidance from the experienced Labor Notes staff, to multiply our support to insurgent caucuses and budding workers’ movements.
We invite you to get in touch. Can you join our growing list of contributors? We are unique in that 99% of our income goes directly to grantees and just 1% goes to overhead. You can read About Us for background – or better yet, contact one of our board members. Your feedback is not only welcome but critical to our work.
